December 29, 2009- Special Guest - Assemblywoman Addie J. Russell recently toured Maplewood Campus with Stephen E. Knight, United Helpers CEO. Maplewood Campus, slated to open soon, will offer in-patient and out-patient rehabilitative services, skilled nursing and St. Lawrence County's first assisted living program.

 December 23, Ogdensburg – Generous Support –Lorry Bass recently purchased a commemorative tile, honoring her grandparents and supporting the Society of the United Helpers Maplewood project. Tiles will be prominently displayed in the “Main Street” building on the new Maplewood Campus and can be purchased by making a gift of $250, $500, $750 or more to the Society of the United Helpers. Tiles are available in three sizes and can accommodate up to ten lines of text, with up to 25 characters per line.

United Helpers Names New CEO

December 17, 2009, Ogdensburg - The United Helpers organization announced Thursday that Stephen E. Knight has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer. Knight has served as interim CEO since May of 2009. He follows John M. Turongian who stepped down after 20 years to accept a position in St. Louis, MO. Knight lends nearly 21years of healthcare experience to the United Helpers Management team. He has served for the past ten years as the Director of Operations. Prior to that appointment, he served as the Administrator of the United Helpers Care, Inc. Throughout his United Helpers career, Knight has been involved with the development of several United Helpers programs and services: United Helpers Mental Health Services, Individualized Residential Alternatives for people with developmental disabilities, Partridge Knoll independent retirement community; and United Helpers Home Health Services. Most recently, Knight has been instrumental in the development and progression of Maplewood Campus in Canton, NY, which will provide skilled nursing services, in-patient and out-patient rehabilitative services and St. Lawrence County’s first Assisted Living Program. Knight is a North Country native. He was raised in Lisbon and graduated from Lisbon Central School. He attended and graduated from St. Lawrence University, lived in Boston, MA, and then later returned to Northern New York. Knight resides in Colton with his wife, Lianne, and their three children: Hannah, Daniel and Sadie Rose.

United Helpers Welcomes Alycia Cole, OTR/L

December 16, 2009, Ogdensburg- The United Helpers organization is pleased to welcome Alycia Cole, Occupational Therapist, to its Rehabilitation Team. “We are very excited to introduce Alycia to the United Helpers’ family,” said Terry Micelli, Director of Rehabilitative Services. “She brings to United Helpers enthusiasm and experience. We are very pleased to have her aboard.” Cole joins United Helpers following internship positions with North Coast Therapy in Waddington, Benchmark Family Services in Watertown, and Deaconess in Buffalo, where she worked and participated in Early Intervention programs. She is a licensed therapist and graduate of the Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY where she earned her Master’s and Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy. “I am very excited to join the United Helpers organization,” Cole said. “The company has a very strong, positive history and a reputation for quality. I really look forward to working with the residents and being able to focus on their needs and improving their quality of life.” Cole is a native of the North Country and resides in Ogdensburg.
