Weekly Skilled Nursing Update, Rehab and Senior Care, Ogdensburg, for week of July 17th
There are no current cases of COVID-19 at United Helpers Rehabilitation and Senior Care in Ogdensburg.
To date, there have been no confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 with residents of the facility, and a total of two staff members that have tested positive. Both staff members have recovered and returned to work.
Limited outdoor visits started on July 16th. Since the guidelines are so strict, it severely limits our ability to host a large number of visits and is currently limited to only 15 visits a day, Monday through Friday, from 10:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm. All visits must be scheduled ahead of time through the Activities Department. The facility is required to enforce mask use and social distancing during the entire visit and New York State requires us to prohibit anyone that fails to adhere to the protocol from visiting for the duration of the COVID-19 state declared public health emergency. Any new positive cases of COVID-19 of staff or residents will require us to cease visitation immediately for at least 28 days. Further information about the visitation process can be found at www.unitedhelpers.org/visitation-ogdensburg. We will also continue to assist with alternative visits such as window visits, video chats, phone calls, email, etc. As a reminder regarding window visits, please refrain from open window interactions. Unfortunately, window visits are required to occur with closed windows but conversations can be accomplished with a phone.
The facility continues to test all staff weekly as mandated by New York State and will communicate any positive tests to all residents and family members and representatives. New York State as extended the testing mandate for another month. All other preventative measures remain in place: restricted visitation, staff screening for fever and respiratory symptoms, mask use of staff and residents, daily resident monitoring for symptoms, restricted group and dining activities, frequent hand hygiene, and social distancing when possible.
We had four successful parking lot drive-bys these past few weeks and only the Newell neighborhood remains. That is scheduled for July 20th at 2:00pm in front of the Newell parking area (a make-up date will be scheduled for the following day if weather does not cooperate). Cars will still gather in the old Adult Home parking lot. This event is organized by our Activities department and is an opportunity for families and friends to support their loved ones in a parade style. Our residents will be positioned at safe distances along the course so they can enjoy the honking, signs, shouting, etc. All participants are asked to remain in their vehicles during this event. Please join us in the parking lot for this fun event!
Thank you all for your patience and stay safe.
