Weekly Skilled Nursing Canton/Assisted Living update for the week of July 17, 2020:

We continue to have no new residents or staff test positive since May 9, 2020. Our one resident and our medical provider are fully recovered.

Staff testing continues once per week with no positives at this time. We will continue to communicate any positive tests to all residents and family members and/or representatives within 24 hours or by 5:00 pm the following day.

All other preventative measures, which include limited visitation, staff screening for fever and respiratory symptoms, mask use by staff and residents, daily resident monitoring for symptoms, restricted group, and dining activities, and social distancing, remain in place.

NYS DOH issued guidance last week related to opening limited visitation for skilled nursing facilities and adult care facilities. A plan was put together and approved by Department of Health, and limited visitation began on Thursday, 7/16/2020. Since the guidelines are so strict, it severely limits our ability to host a large number of visits and they are currently limited to 20 visits a day, Monday through Friday, from 10:00am-12:00pm and 1:00pm-4:00pm. All visits must be scheduled ahead of time through Ashley Flanagan, extention 3276. The facility is required to enforce mask use and social distancing during the entire visit and New York State requires us to prohibit anyone that fails to adhere to the protocol from visiting for the duration of the COVID-19 state declared public health emergency.

Any new positive cases of COVID-19 of staff or residents will require us to cease visitation immediately for at least 28 days. Further information about the visitation process can be found at www.unitedhelpers.org/visitation-canton. We will also continue to assist with alternative visits such as window visits, video chats, phone calls, email, etc. You can arrange these visits through the Activities Department. As a reminder regarding window visits, please refrain from open window interactions. Unfortunately, window visits are required to occur with closed windows but conversations can be accomplished with a phone.

Thank you all for your patience. We will keep you updated as anything changes. Stay safe and cool.
