Weekly Skilled Nursing Canton/Assisted Living update for the week of September 11, 2020:

Last Friday morning, 9/4/2020, United Helpers Rehabilitation & Senior Care, Canton, received notification that a staff member tested positive for Covid-19.  The following day, a staff member from the Assisted Living Program also tested positive.  All residents and staff were tested on Friday, and all of those tests have come back negative.  Residents were tested again this week on Wednesday, and we are still awaiting the results.

Staff testing continues once per week per the governor’s guidance and was extended thru October 4, 2020.  We will communicate any positive tests to all residents and family members and/or representatives within 24 hours or by 5:00pm the following day.

All other preventative measures, which include restricted visitation, staff screening for fever and respiratory symptoms, mask use by staff and residents, daily resident monitoring for symptoms, restricted group and dining activities, and social distancing, remain in place.

Alternative visits, such as window visits, video chats, phone calls, email, etc., continue to be offered and encouraged.  You can arrange these visits through the Activities Department.  As a reminder regarding window visits, please refrain from open window interactions.  Window visits are required to occur with closed windows but conversations can be accomplished with a phone.

New guidance from the governor’s office changed the waiting period to reopen visitation in the ALP from 28 days to 14 days with no new Covid-19 results.  If there are no further positive results, we anticipate re-opening limited visitation in the ALP on or about September 21, 2020, and in the nursing home on or about October 5, 2020.

The landscaping project around our building will also begin on Monday, 9/14/2020.  This work may affect window visits, but we will do our best to accommodate all visits in alternate locations if necessary.  Thank you to the families who have removed bird feeders or ornaments from outside of windows.  We will place any that are left out back near the gazebo to be replaced after the project is complete.

Thank you for your patience and support.  We will keep you updated with any further changes.
