Weekly Skilled Nursing Canton/Assisted Living update for the week of October 16, 2020

There have been no new positive Covid-19 staff or residents since 9/13/2020, in the United Helpers Rehabilitation & Senior Care, Canton, skilled nursing facility (SNF) or Assisted Living Program (ALP). Staff testing continues once per week per the governor’s guidance. We will communicate any positive tests to all residents and family members and/or representatives within 24 hours or by 5:00 pm the following day.

Visitation is going well inside the Meditation Room. During visitation hours, a sign is posted in the parking lot directing you to the right of the main entrance to enter directly into the Meditation Room for visitation screening and your visit. Per the Governor’s guidance, all visitors must show a negative Covid-19 test result within the past seven days of their visit, and social distancing must be maintained during all visits.

To schedule an appointment for visitation, please call Ashley Flanagan, Medical Records, at (315) 386-4541, ext. 3276. The United Helpers webpage also includes information on resources to set up a Covid-19 test. You may also reach out to your primary care provider for information on getting tested. Additionally, if you are traveling to New York from another state, please be aware of the requirements for quarantine prior to scheduling a visit.

All other preventative measures, which include limited visitation, staff screening for fever and respiratory symptoms, mask use by staff and residents, daily resident monitoring for symptoms, restricted group, and dining activities, and social distancing, remain in place.

Alternative visits, such as window visits, video chats, phone calls, email, etc., continue to be offered and encouraged. You can arrange these visits through the Activities Department. As a reminder regarding window visits, they must occur with closed windows but conversations can be accomplished with a phone. We also ask that you bring a lawn chair/camp chair to sit in as our outdoor furniture is limited. Below is a map of the campus to assist you in locating your loved one’s window. We have also placed small tags inside each window, facing out in the upper right-hand corner, showing the cottage and room number.

The landscaping project around the building is complete. Please continue to avoid any areas that have the light green seed/fertilizer combination. The new grass is coming up, but is still fragile. Please avoid these areas as much as possible. If you are bringing lawn ornaments or bird feeders, we ask that nothing be placed closer than six feet to the building to deter rodents and to limit fire hazards.

As always, thank you for your continued patience and support. We will keep you updated with any further changes.
