Life Skills – For People with Developmental Disabilities

We understand

Supporting individuals who experience intellectual and developmental disabilities by coordinating person-centered support services, that’s what United Helpers Behavior Health and Life Skills Services is all about. We encourage individuals to exercise their independence, seek personal growth and development, enjoy meaningful relationships, and lead fulfilling lives. We are committed to the well-being of the people we support while providing opportunities that lead to independent lifestyles.

People who have developmental disabilities may need support and housing in so many different circumstances.  Whether individuals come to our programs from family members that are no longer able to provide the care an individual may need, or the individual may be elderly and need more care than families are able to provide.  Often, individuals may be approaching adulthood — after graduating high school — and want to have a chance to develop their own interests, relationships, and individual lives. United Helpers Behavioral Health and Life Skills offer an array of mental, medical health, and social services and support within our residential housing.

Support for children at home

Sometimes, children who still live with their families need help in order to be able to remain at home. United Helpers, through a Family Supports and Services program, can help fund families’ needs to reduce the financial strain. We can help cover the cost of utility bills, school clothes and supplies, even digital tablets — anything to help your loved one be more successful while living at home.

Promoting self-advocacy

Facilitated by New York State Self Advocacy, each month, United Helpers hosts a gathering of people with developmental disabilities, where they can socialize, talk about issues, and learn how to advocate for themselves.
