Opening of New IRAs Leads to Homecoming
For the past several years Amanda Thompson has enjoyed living at the Riverwood IRA in Ogdensburg, but with the opening of two new IRAs in Heuvelton, the opportunity has arisen for Ms. Thompson to move back home.
This summer, renovations, which will turn the former Irish Settlement Road IRA into two, new six-bedroom IRAS will be complete.
Each IRA will have its own private entrance, kitchen, and living space, with a shared community room for large meals, parties, or other activities.
Ms. Thompson, who can often be seeing wearing the purple and gold of her beloved Heuvelton Bulldogs, is excited for the opportunity. Not only will she be returning to the community where she went to school, but she will be living within a short golf cart ride from her mother.
“I will miss the girls from Riverwood, but the chance to move back to Heuvelton and be closer to my mom wasn’t something I could turn down,” she said.
United Helpers Behavioral Health and Life Skills Director of Residential Services Colleen Aldridge said Ms. Thompson has also began working at the State Street Deli. She is also an active member, looking to become even more active, in the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Fire Auxiliary.
Once Ms. Thompson’s move is complete, we look forward to checking back in with her to share some stories and photos from her homecoming.
