Working at United Helpers has its perks!

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to employee benefit initiatives and programs as we are aware that all individual’s needs are different.  Voluntary benefits are extremely important to help employees pick and choose the coverage they need based on varying life circumstances, current situation and down the road for those who plan ahead.  Below you will find an assortment of benefits that you may qualify for and voluntary benefits you can choose to enroll in based on your life needs.  At United Helpers, we believe that when we take care of our employees’ work/life needs, they provide better quality of care.

Benefit Time

Vacation – Hourly employees will receive two work weeks after one year of continuous employment, three work weeks after five years, and four weeks after ten years. Department Heads and Professional employees will receive two work weeks after one year, three work weeks after two years, and four weeks after five years of continuous employment.

Personal – A total of up to five days per year granted to all eligible employees who have complete 90 days of employment.

Holiday – All eligible employees will receive a holiday allowance up to a maximum of 8 hours for each of the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and three Floating Holidays of your choice.

Sick – Full-time employees will be eligible for sick time which will accrue at the rate of one-half day per calendar month. Part-time employees will accrue sick time on a prorated basis.

Other time – Includes bereavement and jury duty.

No Cost Benefits for ALL Employees

United Concierge Medicine – Telemedicine for all employees regardless of their current insurance coverage or positional hours and qualifying dependents, including legal spouses and children up to 26 years of age.  This service is a virtual ER, providing unlimited access to a physician 24/7 via video chat or telephone. Users are evaluated by a licensed provider who is able to prescribe medications and order laboratory work or other diagnostic testing if necessary. This service is not intended to replace the ER in severe cases.

eni Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – In order to support a healthy work/life balance, United Helpers works with eni to provide an unlimited use EAP, including a virtual personal assistant, legal and financial counseling, as well as health advocacy benefits. Eligible dependents are also covered, including legal spouses and children up to age 26.

No Cost Benefits for Employees in an Awarded Position

Group Term Life Insurance – Coverage is equal to one times your annual salary up to $100,000 for all eligible employees (Administrative paid at a different rate). Annual salary is based on assigned hours. Employees are eligible for coverage when they have a position of 20 hours or more.

Voluntary Benefits

401(k) Retirement Plan (Voluntary) – United Helpers will make a matching contribution equal to a discretionary percentage of your salary deductions. For 2019, the employer match was 10% up to the first 6% of the salary deferred. United Helpers offers a traditional plan as well as a Roth option. In order to participate, employees must be at least 18 years of age, hold an awarded position, and have completed 90 days of service.

Health Insurance (Voluntary) – A Traditional and a High Deductible Plan are offered for Single, 2 Person, or Family Coverage. Costs are based on the type of plan and awarded position. Dental and Vision included in all plans at no additional cost to employees. Enrollment is offered for any employee awarded a 20-hour position or more. If coverage is not elected when first eligible, coverage is offered on January 1st and July 1st unless there is a qualifying event.

Supplemental Dental and Vision Insurance – This insurance can be purchased to enhance existing benefits through United Helpers’ Group Health Insurance or if you have another health insurance plan that does not include dental or vision.  Coverage is available for the employee, spouse, and/or dependents.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA)– This account can be used to pay for medical and/or dependent care and childcare expenses using pre-tax dollars.  FSA’s lower an employee’s taxable income at year-end and it is a great way to cover expenses upfront.  Employees can use this for copays and their health insurance deductibles and expenses not covered by the health plan.  This money is available to use on January 1st and will be spread out over 24 payrolls throughout the year

Supplemental Life Insurance – Additional life insurance is available for employees, spouses, and/or dependents.

Critical Illness Insurance – This insurance provides a lump-sum cash benefit to help cover expenses associated with a qualifying serious illness if the insured is diagnosed with one of the specifics illnesses, i.e. heart attack, cancer, kidney failure.

Accident Insurance – This insurance helps to pay for medical and out-of-pocket costs that you may incur after an accidental injury.  This includes emergency treatment, hospital stays, medical exams, and other expenses.

Short Term Disability – This insurance provides income replacement for non-job-related injuries or illnesses that render an employee unable to work for a limited period of time.  This would be in addition to NYS Short Term Disability.

Identity Theft Insurance – Provides coverage for identity and privacy protection needs including identity, credit, financial account, and social media account monitoring.  It also provides assistance restoring identity theft incidents and offers an easy-to-use application.

Ed-Med Federal Credit Union – United Helpers’ employees receive discounted loans which can be payroll deducted.  Employees may also create a Christmas Club at any point during the year.

Community Bank Christmas Club – Sign-ups for a Community Bank Christmas Club is offered in the fall for the following year.  Your account matures in October to assist with holiday shopping.

Food Co-Op – Buy in bulk and save money with our Food Co-Op programs

Shoes for Crews – Purchase a pair of safety shoes, received $15.00 off a pair each year, and have the remaining expense payroll deducted over the next two paychecks.

Uniform Sales – Uniform Sales are offered during the year at United Helpers Rehabilitation and Senior Care complexes in Canton and Ogdensburg.  Employee purchases can be payroll deducted.
